Amdecon was formed in 1999 when Mr. Michael J. Tillman realized that after a suicide or homicide, when the investigation was complete and the body was removed, all of the agencies involved left the scene but the family was responsible for the cleanup. Mr. Tillman thought this was reprehensible and as a civilized society we had a social obligation to do better.

Societal Obligations

Mr. Tillman founded this company in 1999 and began to help families in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area who had experienced a suicide or homicide in their home. Amdecon’s goal was to create a professional OSHA-compliant company that would perform these services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year regardless of time of day, holidays, or weather. Being a professional company means complying with all applicable federal and state regulations (OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA, etc). These regulations are not suggestions as some people would like to treat them; they are federal law designed to protect all employees of this country.

Being professional means carrying all the appropriate insurance associated with running a business. When you call Amdecon you can be assured that we can verify to you that we carry $1,000,000.00 in general liability insurance, $1,000,000.00 in commercial vehicle coverage, and $1,000,000.00 in workers’ compensation. We will be happy to provide you with our insurance certificates. Be leery of those who say they have it but can never actually follow through and provide you with a certificate of coverage. Please be aware that any company that cannot or will not provide you with this information is putting you, their client, at risk. Without these forms of insurance, should any of their employees be hurt on your property, you could be held liable for damages.

Professional Responsibilities

We at Amdecon suggest you do not deal with any company that does not carry general liability, commercial vehicle coverage, and workers’ compensation.

There is no legitimate reason to not have all these insurance policies, no matter what their reason. Demand to see an insurance certificate from any company and if they have an excuse about why they can’t provide you with one then don’t do business with them. If one of their employees gets hurt on your job or they have a commercial vehicular accident on your property you will be the one that will be dealing with the headaches of having an under-insured contractor working for you. There is a reason we spend thousands of dollars on all the appropriate insurance policies; it's what professionals do.

The Internet

You will see statements like this on the internet:

“Anyone can clean up a trauma scene.”

Any professional knows that statement is absurd; that is like saying “anyone can drill a tooth.” We suppose anyone could drill a tooth, but wouldn’t you want a professional, trained, insured dentist to do it?

The reasons families call Amdecon is because they want the best service they can get. Families want to use a company that is fully insured with general liability, commercial vehicle, and workers’ compensation. Families want to know that the company they have hired is following all EPA, OSHA, and CAL/OSHA regulations. Many companies claim to be OSHA-compliant, but they can’t even explain to you what OSHA-compliancy is, and they can’t provide you with any proofs of insurance or have inadequate insurance coverage.

Families call Amdecon because they are concerned about the emotional and biohazard aspect of the situation.

Not only does Amdecon treat the families with respect and compassion, but we also address the biohazard aspect of the scene because the family doesn’t want to find blood, tissue, odor, or insects a week after the job is complete.

Unfortunately, many times there are no quick fixes. Proper bio-remediation of crime or trauma scenes requires years of experience, high-tech chemicals and equipment, differing types of treatments depending on the situation, and many times, a lot of labor.

Compassion is an important ingredient to what we do but experience, knowledge, and expertise are a much larger aspect of the work.

There are no short cuts. Being “nice” is no excuse for non-professional attitudes and poor business practices. Is "being nice" a good thing? Sure it is, but remember, Ted Bundy was "nice."

Watch out for those claiming to be "counselors." It takes more than a weekend seminar to become a grief counselor or emergency responder; that takes years of training. Leave the grief counseling to the qualified grief counselors.

Leave the biohazard decontamination to Amdecon; it’s what we do.

Marketing Tactics

Some companies use the story “we’re here to help you” as an excuse for unprofessional, illegal, and unsafe practices. Having compassion for our clients is no excuse for operating in violation of federal law, not carrying commercial vehicle and Workers' Compensation insurance.

Religion

Some companies even stoop so low as to use religion as a marketing tool. This is very sad.

Restoration

If a company says they perform the restoration services in conjunction with the cleanup make sure they are licensed remodeling contractors, cabinet makers, flooring experts, painters, electricians, plumbers etc. You are entitled to quality work, not sub-standard work by a weekend handyman.

Amdecon’s goal is to help you.

Give us a call, and we will do anything in our power to assist you. We will work with you, your insurance carrier, or your state victim’s assistance program to make sure you do not get denied the services you are entitled to.
